Consequently, ESEM has previously been used to investigate several particulate formulations, including liposomes [7, 20], niosomes [21], microspheres [22], thermo-responsive microspheres [23], polymeric surfactant micelles [24], dendrimers [24], and colloidal latex dispersions [25].

In addition to these attributes, ESEM also allows for the variation of parameters within the sample chamber, such as temperature, pressure, and gas composition, permitting real-time studies into the effect of environmental changes on the sample [20].
